Welcome to Scriba. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Scriba web application and related services (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Who we are
Scriba is an educational study tool for law students. It is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Nothing you do inside Scriba creates an attorney-client relationship with us or with anyone else.
2. Eligibility & accounts
You must be at least 16 years old to use Scriba. You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for all activity that happens under your account. Tell us immediately if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.
3. Acceptable use
- Use Scriba only for your own private study under fair use.
- Do not upload materials you do not have permission to use.
- Do not attempt to share, resell, or redistribute uploaded materials to others.
- Do not use Scriba to violate your school's honor code — see our Honor Code.
- Do not attempt to reverse engineer, disrupt, or overload the Service.
4. Subscriptions, trial, and billing
Access to the Scriba workspace requires an active subscription. Every new subscription begins with a 7-day free trial. You must add a valid payment method to start the trial. You are not charged until the trial ends, and you may cancel any time during the trial from Settings → Billing to avoid the first charge.
After the trial, subscriptions renew automatically at the price stated at checkout until you cancel. Cancellation stops future charges and revokes access at the end of the current billing period. All charges after the trial are non-refundable except as required by law or as stated in our Refund Policy.
5. Your content
You retain ownership of everything you write, upload, and generate inside Scriba ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited license to process Your Content only as necessary to operate the Service (store it, sync it across your devices, render it in the UI, and back it up).
We do not sell Your Content, and we do not train third-party AI models on it.
6. AI features
Scriba uses third-party AI models (currently Google Gemini via the Lovable AI Gateway) to help you brief cases, summarize passages, and draft study aids. AI output can be wrong, out of date, or fabricated. Always verify against the source material before relying on any AI answer. See our AI Disclosure.
7. Termination
You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, our honor code, or applicable law. On termination, we will delete Your Content according to our Privacy Policy.
8. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Scriba is a study tool, not a substitute for legal research, professional advice, or your law school's curriculum.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
10. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be flagged in the app and you will be asked to reaccept before continuing.
